Back in early 1997 Lisa got a mercury grey XR3i quite cheap. Of course almost straight away we wanted to change it from standard XR3i. It was a long slow process adding parts a bit at a time. This was more a cosmetic job to start off with: lowering, body kit alloys, fancy bits etc. Then when I smashed up my Ford Fiesta XR2 we had a spare high performance engine, and of course it is the same unit as fitted in the XR3i (1.6 CVH). The Escort always was a bit of a lemon and just after I crashed my car Lisa’s engine blew up.
Then my modified engine was put in the XR3i which now looked like an Escort RS Turbo, with a genuine RS Turbo bonnet, wheels and a dodgy RS bodykit. The car was very fast with my engine the injection unit giving my 120/30bhp engine another 10/20bhp, nice! Who would know it was not an RS!
Then unfortunately the new engine had problems, I think the brand new cooling in the Fiesta was missed in the old cooling of the Escort and finished it off. We had to dump it quick in Mid 2000 at auction for £270
